Because I ate like a fiend last week, I really felt like I needed to take a few days and cleanse my body from all of my overindulgence. I keep thinking about how great I felt during my Five-Day Paleo Challenge the other week, so I decided to observe a mostly-Paleo diet until Friday. I'm eliminating grains and added sugars as well as processed foods from my diet, and making sure to eat as many fruits and veggies as I can. This works perfectly because I'll be heading to LA on Friday for a long weekend, and I fully intend on chomping my way around town when I'm there =P
The last time I went Paleo, I fell in love with this No-Bake Chocolate Tart so I wanted to try another paleo-friendly dessert recipe to satisfy my sweet tooth. I decided on a chocolate mousse made with avocados and medjool dates. I'd never heard of medjool dates before and I didn't want to invest in any paleo-only ingredients since I was only observing the diet for a few days, but luckily I found them at Trader Joe's and they were only $4.50. Problem solved!
Now, this mousse is rich and chocolatey and totally hits the spot. It may not be the light and airy kind of mousse you're thinking of, because after refrigeration it gets a bit dense and heavy. When you first make it, the texture is more like a pudding, but when it's cold it firms up and becomes more like an ice cream. Nevertheless, it's still delicious and I'm loving it!
